Last week I introduced a felt board into our music time. At the moment I only have felt ducks made, and I use them to sing "five little ducks". If you are not familiar with the song, ducklings venture off one by one until their mother feels sad and goes off to find them.
As we get close to the last verse the children ask me again and again "Is mama duck sad?" Since we started singing this song daily I have noticed my students paying very close attention to the feelings being expressed by themselves and others.
This weekend when I went to the library, I set out to find books about feelings. I didn't find as many as I had hoped, but they are very interested in the few that I brought into the classroom. Today When Sophie Gets Angry-- Really, Really Angry... was requested and read five times.
What are your favorite books about feelings?
