One of the greatest gifts we can give to our children is a love of reading.
The conventional thought regarding children's books is that any book is better than nothing. While this is true, it falls flat. Montessori shows us ways that our children's book choices can be improved.
When we are purposeful about the books we share with our children they become engrossed; discovering the joy and knowledge a book can provide. This will motivate them later while learning to read and fostering a feeling that books are worth taking the time to read.
The Montessori method emphasizes the importance of having beautiful, and engaging books in any child's space. We also suggest that infants and toddlers are only provided with books set in reality; this helps young children to better understand the world around them. Giving reality-based books to your infants and toddlers will give them the time and tools to understand their world fully. This solid understanding of reality will aid them immensely when using their imaginations in the coming years. This appreciation of the world we are born into helps children to feel safe and secure while providing them with a deep love of nature, animals and their day to day life.
